Year 9 Drama
Unit 1
This unit is designed to introduce student through extended Drama activities to develop the work of theorists such as Laban and Stanislavski. Students will also further develop their improvisation and characterization skills and work towards producing performances. Students learn about movement through Laban’s system and character development through the use of Stanislavski’s system. Such work will be applied through story construction, scripts and character development.
Learning Goals for this unit are to:
- Develop the ability to evaluate and analyse theatre performance from both professional performers and peers
- Develop characters with convincing voice and body language to portray and convey relationships
- Work as part of a group to construct a theatre performance
- Express understandings and feelings about world issues and events through Drama
- Use preparation time carefully and effectively for improvisations and performances.
Unit 2:
This unit poses the question: “How might traditional and past physical approaches to theatre be applied to both classical and contemporary theatre presentation?”
The Learning Goals for this unit are to:
- Understand and apply traditional “commedia dell arte” techniques and approaches
- Develop a heightened connection between individual movement, group movement and the space to create theatrical presentation
- Understand and apply tragedy and comedy structures utilising a physical approach
- Create and apply original theatre expression utilising physical and vocal approaches.
